In 1979, while making a film in Bhutan with Richard Breyer called “The Royal Dancers of the Kingdom of Bhutan,” I photographed the Thimphu Tshechu Festival. My photographs were published in Natural History Magazine and Asia Magazine.

In October, 1979, I photographed the Thimphu Tshechu fall festival in the Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu, Bhutan. We were invited by the king of Bhutan and the Asia Society to make a film and photograph the royal dancers.

The Bhutanese people trek in from all over the country, sometimes for days, to gather for Thimphu Tshechu in the Thimphu Dzong, the Buddhist Monastery for days of dances and plays.
